Le président mauritanien Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani a exprimé his satisfaction about the progress achieved in the GTA gas project, a joint venture between Mauritania and Senegal, during a field visit to the project’s installations. He said that the platform is a fully integrated LNG facility, and that entering this first phase of operations marks the official entry of Mauritania and Senegal into the club of gas-producing nations.
He added that completing such a massive project took a long time and required highly qualified human and technical resources, noting that the visit allowed him to appreciate the complexity and efficiency of the operational system.
The president emphasized that this first phase brings direct benefits, including significant financial revenues for the state treasury, electric power supply for citizens and national industries, and a boost in local content, which he said “could truly transform the country’s economic growth pace — it’s what we can clearly call le nerf de la guerre.”
He expressed his joy at seeing a number of young Mauritanian talents — engineers and technicians — actively contributing to various aspects of the project, underlining the importance of vocational training and capacity building as the best path to maximize national benefits and increase returns from the project.
He concluded with a general call to promote training and innovation in order to build a brighter economic future for the country.
